"Dorothy Taught Me This Stuff"
The name of our catering and grill business was inspired by my mother, Dorothy B. Thompson.
DTMTS stands for "Dorothy Taught Me This Stuff".
For many years my mother cooked for many occasions, and her food was praised by all that had the opportunity to eat and enjoy it!
She specialized in desserts and she always cooked every dessert from scratch. She only used real ingredients, any imitation flavors or cheap ingredients just would not do! She would say that "Pure and Fresh Ingredients Enhances The Flavor"
Everything she cooked, she always cooked with love and she took great care to ensure that whatever she was cooking was to her high standards and expectations.
Her desserts and cobblers were her biggest hits. She often made several desserts for her beloved church and she also made desserts for my uncle to sell at his BBQ stand.
I remember that my uncle's stand opened for business at 10:00 am and by noon here desserts were almost nearly or completely sold out!
In fact, on many occasions, customers would be at the door before the stand opened to make sure that they could get some of her desserts before they sold out
She Passed It On
As a young child, I was always in the kitchen watching my mother cook. I was always fascinated with how she meticulously prepped and prepared her desserts and other foods.
I wanted to cook just Like her!
Another plus was that I always got to lick the beaters!
As I got older, I was so interested in how she prepared food, that I began writing down her recipes and I also recorded everything from the oven temperature to how long to let things cook and rest before moving forward.
I can remember the first time that I cooked a few of her desserts and to my surprise she gave me excellent reviews. I guess you can say "I nailed It!"
I asked many questions over the years and she always gave me tips
to make a dessert better.
I have been barbecuing for over 30 years now and DTMTS Catering and Grill has been a dream that has now become a reality.
Dorothy truly taught me this stuff!
